WELCOME TO BOWMANVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

 

The teachers and administrators at BHS are dedicated to providing each student with an optimal working and learning environment to maximize his or her potential. The school is committed to the individual and collective pursuit of excellence.

 

SCHOOL PROGRAM

 

We are a composite school offering diversified academic and technological programs for grades 9 through 12 that include; Special Education, Traditional Technology, and a strong Arts program including dance and theatre arts.

 

We run a Breakfast Club at Bowmanville that welcomes any students or staff who may not have had time for a nutritious meal at the start of the day. It operates daily out of room 165 from 8:00-8:20 a.m. Get free food and a warm welcome to start the day off right.

 

Our student population is approximately 1000 BHS students with roughly 70 teachers. In addition we have one Principal, two Vice-principals, a Mental Health Child and Youth Worker promoting mentally healthy schools, a Student Retention counsellor, administrative assistants and custodians. We have such a broad range of courses that can be viewed in the course calendar which will be available soon in PDF format. Many courses require specialized facilities. Some of the key points about our facilities are;

  • Large Auditorium - seats 622/ Cafeteria -seats 420
  • 3 Gyms, playing field
  • Dance studio
  • 3 visual arts studios
  • 2 Instrumental music rooms
  • 57 classrooms / 8 portables / 6 science labs
  • 8 computer labs / 6 academic / 3 technological -approximately 300 computers, with Wi-fi access
  • Academic Resource Centre
  • Co-operative Education Centre
  • Student Leadership Council Room
  • Extensive community use during evenings and weekends

School Council is composed of parent volunteers, the principal, a teacher rep, and community representatives.
